C’est un geste politique rare, porteur à la fois d’espoir et de stratégie, que vient de poser le Parti de l’Alliance Libérale (PAL).

 Alors que la course à la présidentielle du 12 octobre 2025 s’intensifie, le parti et son candidat investi, M. Ateki Seta Caxton, annoncent officiellement leur volonté de se retirer au profit d’une candidature unique de l’opposition. Une décision présentée comme un sacrifice nécessaire pour « mettre un terme à 43 ans d’un système » en état d'« effondrement interne ».

Dans un communiqué rendu public ce dimanche, le président national du PAL, Sa Majesté Célestin Bedzigui, a fixé les contours de cette manœuvre. Le parti déclare « sa disponibilité à accepter que son candidat s'efface derrière tout autre candidat qui, dans le contexte actuel, présenterait de meilleures chances de vaincre le RDPC ». Cette position place le PAL et Ateki Seta Caxton en fers de lance d'une dynamique d'unification que beaucoup appellent de leurs vœux, mais qui peine toujours à se concrétiser.

Un sacrifice pour l'intérêt général

Face au « spectacle d'un pays en ruines dans tous les domaines », le PAL estime que le triple défi de rebâtir l'État, la Nation et l'économie « ne peut être relevé que par l'unification des forces politiques ». Le parti défend la candidature consensuelle comme « le retrait volontaire des autres candidats (…) au profit du candidat que chacun estime avoir les meilleures chances de mener à la victoire ». Une façon de mettre la pression sur les autres prétendants sérieux à la succession, en les sommant de privilégier « l'intérêt général par rapport à la satisfaction des pulsions égoïstes ».

Cette annonce intervient alors que la pré-campagne d'Ateki Seta Caxton, marquée par des rassemblements « enthousiastes » à Bamenda, Buéa, Douala ou Monatélé, laissait « entrevoir une suite prometteuse ». Un constat qui, selon le communiqué, n'a pas suffi à occulter l'impératif catégorique de l'union.

Le compte à rebours est lancé

Dès maintenant, M. Ateki Seta Caxton « engagera immédiatement des conversations avec ceux des candidats légitimés par le Conseil Constitutionnel qui croient en la nécessité de la candidature consensuelle ». Le PAL promet que « dans les prochains jours », et avant le lancement de la campagne officielle, le peuple sera informé du nom du candidat consensuel que leur champion aura choisi de soutenir.

Cette décision place la balle dans le camp des autres leaders de l'opposition. Accepteront-ils de jouer le jeu des concessions pour créer une vague capable de submerger le parti au pouvoir depuis 43 ans ? La réponse dans les prochains jours sera décisive pour la suite de la présidentielle camerounaise.

In a rare and strategic political move, the Party of the Liberal Alliance (PAL) has made a significant announcement. With the presidential election of October 12, 2025, heating up, the party and its nominated candidate, Mr. Ateki Seta Caxton, have officially declared their willingness to step aside in favor of a single opposition candidate. This decision is presented as a necessary sacrifice to "put an end to 43 years of a system" showing undeniable signs of "internal collapse."

In a statement released this Sunday, the National President of PAL, His Majesty Célestin Bedzigui, outlined this maneuver. The party declares its "availability to accept that its candidate steps aside for any other candidate who, in the current context, would have a better chance of defeating the CPDM." This position positions PAL and Ateki Seta Caxton as champions of a unification dynamic that many desire but has been difficult to achieve.

A Sacrifice for the Common Good

Confronted with the "spectacle of a country in ruins in all areas," PAL believes that the triple challenge of rebuilding the State, the Nation, and the economy "can only be met by the unification of political forces." The party advocates for the consensus candidate as "the voluntary withdrawal of other candidates... in favor of the candidate everyone believes has the best chances of leading to victory." This is a way of putting pressure on other serious contenders, urging them to prioritize "the common good over the satisfaction of selfish impulses."

This announcement comes as Ateki Seta Caxton's pre-campaign, marked by "enthusiastic" rallies in Bamenda, Buéa, Douala, and Monatélé, suggested a "promising continuation." However, according to the statement, this was not enough to overshadow the categorical imperative of unity.

The Countdown Begins

Effective immediately, Mr. Ateki Seta Caxton "will immediately begin conversations with those candidates legitimized by the Constitutional Council who believe in the necessity of a consensus candidate." PAL promises that "in the coming days," and before the official campaign launch, the people will be informed of the name of the consensus candidate their champion has chosen to support.

This decision throws the ball into the court of other opposition leaders. Will they agree to make concessions to create a wave capable of overwhelming the party that has been in power for 43 years? The answer in the coming days will be decisive for the Cameroonian presidential election.
